Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy

The Department aims at providing quality care to patients attending the OPD and those admitted in IPD with various dermatological diseases. We also aim at educating and promoting the knowledge of dermatological diseases among students and other medical professionals.

Academics

Academic training is being given to Under graduate medical students by means of clinical training, lectures, seminars, group discussions, ward rounds and demonstrations. Our department offers 3 MD Post graduate seats. We also offer dermatological training to Oral Pathology Post graduates from Thai Moogambigai Dental College and students belonging various allied health sciences, pertaining to their subject. Our department library is well equipped with more than 90 textbooks containing recent editions of standard textbooks of Dermatology, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Leprosy and Cosmetology.

Special clinics

We conduct special clinics on each of the weekdays on Vitiligo, Pigmentary disorders, Psoriasis, Immunobullous disorders, Hansen’s disease and Autoimmune connective tissue disorders.

  4. Chemical peeling for pigmentation removal, acne and facial rejuvenation
  5. Microdermabrasion and Microneedling for Acne scars
  6. Phototherapy for treatment of Vitiligo and Psoriasis
  7. Nail Surgeries
  8. Skin Biopsies

Quality inpatient care is being provided in our 30 bedded Dermatology Ward

Other activities: World Leprosy Day,  World Vitiligo Day, World Psoriasis Day and World AIDS day are observed every year and we conduct various programmes on these days to create awareness among students, medical professionals and general public. We also organize Guest lectures and CME’s  at regular intervals. We promote outreach activities by means of conducting various camps and by catering dermatology services to patients attending our rural and urban health centres.

Research: Our department has completed various research projects and has a number of ongoing research activities involving faculties and students of our department, other clinical and non clinical departments and para medical courses
