About the Department / Program
Faculty development in India began with the establishment of the first National Teacher Training Centre (NTTC) at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry in 1976. In 1997, the Medical Council of India (MCI) recommended the establishment of medical education units (MEU) in each medical college. Complementing to all the recent norms, ACSMCH has established the MEU department which is formulated on achieving Faculty Development that encompasses all activities related to optimizing the effectiveness of the faculty as teachers, trainers and leaders in education. The MEU focuses on establishing a systematic faculty development Programmes (FDP). The Team aims to guide faculty to cope with new teaching tasks and encourages the trainees to build important career relationships with peers, mentors and academicians who contribute to academic advancement.
The MEU Team comprises of the Core Committee and the Curriculum Committee and the members have been trained at the Nodal Centre, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Hospital. The MEU boasts on the well-equipped Skills lab available in the college premises. The mannequins in the skills lab highly complements the latest teaching learning process. Regular FDPs are being conducted under the surveillance of the Nodal center, SRMCH as per the directives of the NMC.
The faculty members in the team have been trained in several domains as basic Course in Medical Education, Curriculum Implementation Support Program and Advanced Course in medical education.
Objectives of the MEU
- Faculty development by holding Seminars/Workshops/Conferences/CME
- Curriculum development (UG & PG) as per latest NMC guidelines
- Updating & implementation of latest NMC guidelines for UG/PG examination
- Supervise/coordinate overall educational development of the Institute.
