The Department was started with the motive of providing comprehensive services to patients seeking help for a various mental health problems and to educate, enlighten and promote knowledge of mental health among students, medical professionals and public at large.
Academics
Academic training is being imparted to Undergraduate Medical students and Our Department offers 2 MD Post Graduate seats. Over the years the department has imparted Psychiatry training to our Paramedical (Nursing) students.
Training in Psychiatry is imparted to students through Theory classes; Clinical posting where clinical case discussions and demonstrations , ward rounds; group discussions, Departmental Seminar and Journal club.
Our Department Library is well stocked with latest Text books, reference books, Indian and International journals in order to keep the faculty and students updated in recent advances in Psychiatry.
Facilities
We provide round the clock Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry services to address Psychiatry issues in patients who are medically ill and provide prompt opinions on cross referrals. We cater to the needs of various special populations and rare psychiatry illness through Speciality clinics and Interdepartmental collaborations.

World Mental Health day is celebrated every year through various activities to enhance awareness among Medical professionals, students and common people.
Community mental health programmes has also been initiated to promote mental health in rural, suburban , industrial units and surrounding areas.
We also cater to the mental health requirements of inmates in special schools, old age homes and Psychiatry rehab centers.
The Department organizes Guest Lectures, Seminars, Debates , Quiz programmes, Poster presentation at regular intervals.
The Department has many ongoing and completed research projects to its credit. Research activities involving faculty within and between the departments , students are actively encouraged.
