  • To perform Procedural or psychomotor skills that require manual dexterity and include laboratory and clinical skills,

  • To develop Team skills including leadership skills.
  • Updating skills by conductingSeminars/Workshops/Conferences/CME
  • Curriculum development (UG & PG) as per latest NMC guidelines

Undegraduate and postgraduate students are taught psychomotor skills like Venipuncture, Intramuscular injection, Intradermal injection, Subcutaneous injection, Intra Venous (IV) injection, Setting up IV infusion and calculating drip rate, Blood transfusion, Urinary catheterization, Basic life support , Oxygen therapy, Aerosol therapy / nebulization, Ryle’s tube insertion, Lumbar puncture, Pleural and ascitic aspiration ,Cardiac resuscitation, Peripheral blood smear interpretation, Bedside urine analysis.

Hands on training in Surgical skills like Basic suturing, Basic wound care, Basic bandaging, Incision and drainage of superficial abscess, Early management of trauma and trauma life support and Orthopedics skills include Application of basic splints and slings, Basic fracture and dislocation management, Compression bandage.

Obstetrics and Gynecology skills trained are Per Speculum (PS) and Per Vaginal (PV) examination, Visual Inspection of Cervix with Acetic Acid (VIA), Pap Smear sample collection & interpretation, Intra- Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) insertion & removal, Obstetric examination, Episiotomy, Normal labor and delivery (including partogram).

Pediatrics skills include Neonatal resuscitation, Setting up Pediatric IV infusion and calculating drip rate, Setting up Pediatric Intraosseous line. The department of Forensic Medicine utilizes the skills lab to train the students on Documentation and certification of trauma , Diagnosis and certification of death, Legal documentation related to emergency cases, Certification of medical-legal cases e.g. Age estimation, sexual assault, Establishing communication in medico-legal cases with police, public health authorities, other concerned departments

Otorhinolaryngology procedures like Anterior nasal packing, Otoscopy and Ophthalmology skills include Visual acuity testing, Digital tonometry, Indirect ophthalmoscopy, Epilation, Eye irrigation ,Instillation of eye medication, Ocular bandaging .

Dermatological procedures taught are Slit skin smear for leprosy , Skin biopsy, Gram’s stained smear interpretation, KOH examination of scrapings for fungus, Dark ground illumination, Tissue smear, Cautery – Chemical and electrical.
